MUTING SILENCE · IDENTITY SYSTEM · APRIL 2026

A quiet
visual language for noise.

One system across everything Muting Silence does: album pages, streaming assets, gig posters, print, Instagram, Facebook events, merch. The point is recognisable restraint — black, bone, and a chromatic split that's been in the catalog since 2012. Nothing new is invented; what existed is named, scaled, and made reusable.

Tokens & Voice

VOICE

Restrained. Technical without being cold. French-speaking but fluent in silence. Prefers nouns to adjectives; the lowercase to the shout. Never sells; only notes.

PRINCIPLES

  • 01 Black is the background, always.
  • 02 One image per surface, no more.
  • 03 Chromatic split is emotion.
  • 04 Math & field notes over decoration.
  • 05 If it can be removed, remove it.

NAMESPACES

  • --ink text on dark
  • --bg true black
  • --green primary accent
  • --magenta secondary accent
  • --amber tertiary / warm
  • --bone paper white
  • --line hairline divider

The catalogue has always moved from green to magenta through neutral territory. Use the ends together for maximum chromatic split (covers, announcements); use the middle for calm interior UI.

DO

  • Pair green and magenta only when they're the point — covers, launch posts, posters.
  • Let amber carry press / "nostalgia" / vinyl pressing updates.
  • Use true black, not grey. The catalog is built on void.

DON'T

  • Don't use accents as backgrounds. They're signal, not ground.
  • Don't introduce saturated red, yellow or cyan outside the scale.
  • Don't use gradients wider than two stops of the scale.

FOUR TEMPLATES

House rules

ONE PAGE. READ BEFORE SHIPPING.

DO

  • • True black everywhere. If you need lift, use grain — not dark grey.
  • • One image / glyph per surface. Let it breathe inside at least 12% padding.
  • • Set the italic π/5 glyph in Newsreader italic, with ±2px chromatic split.
  • • Speak in mono caps for metadata (track, duration, catalog nr, year).
  • • Sign every release with a four-corner chrome: MS · NN / type / format / year.
  • • Keep copy quiet. Sentences end; paragraphs stop.

DON'T

  • • Don't add a logo to album covers. The sigil & corners are enough.
  • • Don't centre body copy. Only display & sigils can be centred.
  • • Don't use bitmap font effects (outline, glow, drop-shadow) on Space Grotesk — only the serif glyph gets chromatic split.
  • • Don't use emoji. Ever.
  • • Don't AI-generate artwork for cover imagery. Use field photography, handled plates, or the four cover templates above.
  • • Don't introduce a new typeface without replacing one of the three.
